syndication-usa-today-449

(Washington, DC) — President Trump’s so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill” has been passed. It’s a massive spending plan that codifies tax cuts and sends additional resources toward securing the southern US border. So, what’s in the bill for everyday Americans?

Here is the full  887-page bill  if you find yourself bored at home with lots of time to read.

Dominic Carter says BBB is a Big Win for Trump

The centerpiece of the plan is an extension of President Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which was set to expire at the end of the year. The BBB will make almost all of of those tax cuts permanent. Republicans say some of the highlights of the bill, include an increase in the Child Tax Credit,  the SALT tax deduction cap will go from $10,000 to $40,000 a year for the next five years, and federal taxes will be temporarily suspended on tips, overtime and car loan interest.

The BBB will allocate $46.5 billion for border wall construction.  Another $45 billion will be used to expand ICE detention centers and related facilities, and $30 billion will be spent on hiring and training new workers and beefing up the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

The Congressional Budget Office predicts the legislation would raise the debt ceiling by $5 trillion at a time that Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent is warning lawmakers that he’s worried the U.S. may be unable to pay it’s bills come the end of the summer .

Democrats says Americans will will cry foul when they see how the tax cuts are paid for. They say the bill is in part being being funded by over the top cuts to health care and nutrition programs, like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer says the cuts are so severe that they could leave millions without health insurance over the next few years.

One of the biggest critics of the BBB is former Trump supporter and friend, Elon Musk. He says the bill increases the nation’s deficit, and at the same time undermines all the work he and his team did at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)” to reduce wasteful spending. President Trump says Musk is upset because the “big, beautiful bill” would end federal tax credits for electric vehicles in three months. Musk owns the electric car company, Tesla.

President Trump’s first big bill has passed the Senate and now is back in the House waiting for a final vote and then his signature.
