How To Keep Your Pets Safe From Fireworks

dog

(New York, NY)  — Fourth of July fireworks might be fun for you and your family, but if you have a pet at home, it’s a different story.  Mike Spiotta of North Shore Animal League says many pets are very frightened by fireworks.  There are some things you can do to make your pet more comfortable on the 4th.

Spiotta says make sure you set up a calm space in your home that can help drown out the noise from fireworks and make sure you spend time with your pet in that calm area.  It doesn’t necessarily mean a quiet space, but a calming environment with some ambient noise.  If your pet is extremely skittish, you might want to call your veterinarian to see if they need medication.  In addition, make sure your pet is microchipped and it’s up-to-date.  If your pet goes missing, you should contact your local police precinct or animal shelter.
