(New York, NY) — Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart has died at the age of 90. Swaggart had been in ill health after suffering cardiac arrest earlier this month. The Pentecostal preacher, who was a native of Louisiana, has been credited with televising church sermons so people could watch at home. He founded the Son-Life Broadcasting Network and the Family Worship Center.
Swaggart had a massive following before admitting to adultery during a televised church service in 1988. He was one of a string of successful TV preachers whose careers were tarnished in the 1980s and ’90s by sex scandals. Swaggart continued to preach for decades, but with reduced audiences.
