(New York, NY) — A deal has been reached, allowing cancer care to continue for thousands of patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering. There was widespread concern from cancer patients across the Tri-State area, after Memorial Sloan Kettering and UnitedHealthcare failed to come to an agreement on insurance rates prior to the June 30 deadline. Now, a new agreement is in place, allowing for continued treatment at what is considered one of the best cancer hospitals in the nation.
The cancer treatment center at Memorial Sloan Kettering says about 19 to 20-thousand patients who have UnitedHealthcare can remain within their care.
The new, multi-year agreement ensures continued in-network access to treatment for the insurance company’s commercial members. Memorial Sloan Kettering says current and newly insured patients will receive care without interruption. The new agreement includes market aligned rate adjustments consistent with other cancer treatment facilities.
UnitedHealthcare had claimed the cancer center’s proposal would drive up costs, but Memorial Sloan Kettering says that’s not the case — and that it’s only asking for fair compensation. Memorial Sloan Kettering maintained their goal was to ensure access to quality care while making it as affordable as possible.
