(Cranford, NJ) — For the third year, cops in Cranford, New Jersey are pushing for bike safety with kids. If you’re a kid in the town and you get pulled over by police, it’s a good thing. Cops there are awarding kids who wear bike helmets a ticket for 2 free slices of pizza and a drink. Cranford Detective Ali Muhammad says sometimes “kids wearing helmets wave us down. It’s pretty cute.”
Officials say the safety program is a way to spread the word that wearing a bicycle helmet is the best way to ride. Earlier this month a cyclist who wasn’t wearing a helmet, died after loosing control in Central Park. Cranford cops hope this effort will save lives.
