(Newark, NJ) — Starting July 1st, fare hikes kick in for New Jersey Transit commuters. Just in time for the summer travel season.
New Jersey Transit train and bus riders are getting hit with a three-percent fare increase. It follows last year’s 15-percent fare hike which was part of annual increases set by the agency following a number of public hearings.
NJ Transit officials have said the increases are necessary to avoid cuts to service and fund improvements. The agency is also dealing with funding bus lines that were abandoned last year by Coach USA, along with cost increases for AccessLINK which is a service provided to disabled riders.
