(Venice) — The celebrities are arriving in Venice for the wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancee Lauren Sanchez. Festivities got underway Thursday night in the cloister of a 14th-century cathedral in the ancient city. Among the celebrities in attendance for the 45-million-dollar wedding are Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kim Kardashian and NFL star Tom Brady. Some 200 guests have been invited to the three-day event, which ends Saturday.
Some locals in Venice are angry that Bezos has essentially taken over the famed city, at the height of the tourist season to throw his over the top nuptials. Some of them have been seen on the streets protesting. Locals are comparing the wedding to the 1981 royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer
Bezos is one of the world’s richest men, with an estimated worth of 231 million dollars.
