(New York, NY) — Several reports say Andrew Cuomo will stay on general election ballot for New York City Mayor as an Independent.
It means that even if the ex-governor doesn’t mount a serious general election campaign, he’ll siphon votes away from Mayor Eric Adams who’s also running as an Independent. That’s good news for Democratic socialist contender Zohran Mamdani.
Cuomo was defeated by third-term Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani in the Democratic primary. That means the general election ballot could feature at least five candidates, including Republican Curtis Sliwa and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams.
