Ceasefire Still Holding

flags-2

The ceasefire between Israel and Iran seems to be holding. Each side is claiming victory after the U.S.-backed cessation of hostilities. Talks between Washington and Tehran are ongoing. The U.S. joined Israel in attacking Iran two days before the ceasefire was announced, targeting key nuclear sites to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

At 6:02 p.m. EDT on June 23, 2025, US president Donald Trump declared that an agreement to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran for the Iran–Israel war would be executed by 25 June, calling the conflict the “12 Day War”.

President Trump said on June 25th that the United States and Iran would hold talks “next week,” while also casting doubt on the need to iron out a deal with Tehran about its nuclear program. Trump told reporters at a NATO conference that he didn’t “think it was necessary” for the talks to produce an agreement with Iran, presumably to give up its nuclear ambitions. It’s unclear what format any new discussions would take. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States was seeking direct talks between the countries.

Internet connectivity is being restored in Iran. It comes after repeated Israeli war strikes had taken it out. Iran’s communications minister wrote on ‘X,’ “with conditions returning to normal, the state of communication access has reverted to its previous state,” and he apologized to all those impacted by the outage. Both Israel and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire and said they will not break the truce unless the other does so first.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that any ceasefire deal is fragile, but Trump is doing the world a favor by pushing it forward.
