
(Bronx, NY) – One of the two suspects in the violent assault and robbery of an off-duty NYPD officer is due in court Wednesday. After fighting extradition from out of state, 23-year-old Taveon Hargrove will go before a judge in the Bronx.
Cops arrested Hargrove in Virginia after he was found hiding in a garage and allegedly resisted arrest. Fellow suspect 22-year-old Wayne Lucas was arrested while wearing a wig as a disguise. Lucas was previously extradited to New York and arraigned on 34 counts, including attempted murder and robbery. Hargove is fighting extradition. Hargrove’s father, Jeffery, was also arrested for using the stolen credit card.
It was in of May 2025 when off-duty NYPD officer Chowdhury Naffes was violently assaulted and robbed in the Bronx while walking home. Two masked men tackled him, stomped on his face, and stole his service weapon, phone, and wallet. Naffes suffered serious facial injuries and spent four days in the hospital.
Officials have condemned the attack, calling it “brutal and egregious” Officer Naffes, a new recruit and former 911 dispatcher, is recovering and hopes to return to duty.
