(New York, NY) — New York’s City’s primary election is today. Polls are open till 9PM tonight. Nine Democratic candidates are running for mayor, with former Governor Andrew Cuomo attempting a comeback and Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani nipping at his heels hoping for a huge primary day upset. Early voting ended on Sunday. 384-thousand New Yorkers cast ballots during the eight days of early voting, that’s more than double the usual number. The Mamdani campaign believes the majority of early ballots went their way.

Ranked choice voting is being used again which allows voters to pick their top five choices. Voters are also choosing among candidates for city comptroller, public advocate, borough president and city council.

The heat and humidity could keep voters way today. The Board of Elections says poll workers will be handing out fans and water to those waiting in line to vote.

The general election is on November 4th.
