(New York, NY) – President Trump extended the deadline for TikTok to sell all aspects of its business and activities within the United States—by another 90 days. This is the third delay under a 2024 law aimed at cutting ties between TikTok and its Chinese owner, ByteDance — due to national security concerns.
Companies such as Oracle and Walmart are still talking about potentially buying TikTok, but China’s new rules about sharing the app’s recommendation system are making it harder. These rules mean ByteDance needs special permission from the Chinese government before it can share this technology with other companies. This extra step is slowing down the process. Meanwhile, TikTok is still working normally for users.
