HEAT WAVE!

syndication-westchester-county-journal-news-208

(New York, NY) – The Tri-State area is experiencing it’s first heat wave of the summer with temperatures over 90 for three straight days.

Mayor Eric Adams is urging New Yorkers to take precautions in this extreme heat. With temperatures expected to feel above 100 degrees at times through Wednesday, Adams says they’re concerned, especially for older people and those with certain health issues. He’s urging residents to stay hydrated, and only go outside when it’s cooler, like in the early morning or at night.

Health experts recommend staying inside with the A/C on, or if you can’t,  head to cooling centers open around the region. Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency in 32 counties including the five boroughs, Long Island and communities north.

Con Edison is urging customers in parts of New York City to conserve energy as thousands have lost power during the first heatwave of the year. The utility is asking people in eastern Queens, northwest Brooklyn and parts of Staten Island to avoid using high-energy appliances like washers, dryers and microwaves until crews complete repairs. Around six-thousand people were without power in Queens alone as of late Monday (June 23, 2025)  afternoon.
