(Minneapolis, MN) — It took two days, but authorities in Minnesota finally found their suspect, 57-year-old Vance Boelter. Boelter has been charged with stalking and murdering Minnesota House of Representatives Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, in addition to stalking and shooting Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife. On June 14th, officials say Boelter allegedly impersonated a police officer, including wearing a rubber mask, during the shootings at the lawmakers’ homes. Boelter also went to the homes of two other Minnesota elected officials, still disguised as a law enforcement officer, but didn’t manage to make contact. Anthony Cumia talked about the case on his Sunday night show.
Law enforcement searched Boelter’s SUV and recovered five firearms, including semi-automatic, assault-style rifles, a large quantity of ammunition, and several notebooks filled with handwritten notations. Those notes listed out the names of dozens of Minnesota state and federal elected officials. The notes often identified those officials’ home addresses. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called the act political violence. He added, “This cannot be the norm. This cannot be the way that we deal with our political differences.”
Friends of Boelter described him as conservative and right-leaning, but never fanatical. However, he did say, on a trip to the he Democratic Republic of Congo two years ago, that “The churches are so messed up, they don’t know abortion is wrong in many churches.” Political strategist Hank Sheinkopf told “Cat and Cosby” that radicalization is a problem these days. He feels the democratic party is getting more radicalized and is heading in the wrong direction.
Meantime, due to the violence in Minnesota, New York City police have beefed up their response as Rebecca Weiner, Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence & counterterrorism explained to “The Rev and the Rabbi.”
