(New York, NY) — There have been some last minute surprises in the run up to Tuesday’s New York City Democratic mayoral primary. On Monday, The New York Times editorial board warned it’s readers not to vote for Democratic Assemblyman Zoran Mamdani. The board wrote  “We do not believe that Mr. Mamdani deserves a spot on New Yorkers’ ballots. His experience is too thin and his agenda reads like a turbocharged version of Mr. de Blasio’s dismaying mayoralty.”

The Times editorial board does not like Andrew Cuomo much either. They noted that the former Governor, who’s in first place in the polls, was forced to resign over serious ethics violations. While the Times isn’t directly endorsing any of the eleven Democratic candidates, it suggested that City Comptroller Brad Lander, who’s polling third, would make a good alternative to Cuomo and Mamdani because he’s a competent and effective manager who has integrity.

Listen here as Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa and WABC’s Sid Rosenberg make primary predictions.

On Tuesday, Lander was arrested . Federal authorities accuse him of disrupting an immigration proceeding at 26 Federal Plaza, in Lower Manhattan. Lander had been there observing immigration hearings, something he has done several other times. As immigration agents went to arrest a detainee, Lander demanded to see the ICE warrants, as well as the officers badges. That’s when he was cuffed and hauled away. He was released four hours later. The Department of Homeland Security says Lander was arrested for “assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer.” It’s not clear if he will face any federal charges.

There is a Republican primary for mayor. Curtis Sliwa is expected to win it easily. He faces little competition.
