(New York, NY) – It’s not easy breaking free from the pack. In the modern world — with 24/7 news cycles, cell phone alerts constantly barking at us, and social media feeds continuously blaring in our faces — some things inevitably get drowned out. But that’s not an acceptable reality for politicians. And few seem to have mastered the ability to stay at the front end of the headlines, day after day — except for President Trump.
Of course the president, a native of Queens, and a longtime resident of Manhattan, is not a candidate in this race. He’s declined to endorse a choice at this point — even though Republican Curtis Sliwa is running unopposed in the GOP primary. Mayor Eric Adams is running as an independent. And the Democratic side is splintered into several potentially viable candidates — with former Governor Andrew Cuomo and progressive state lawmaker Zohran Mamdani jockeying for the lead.

On Tuesday, Democrat Brad Lander — the city comptroller — got himself arrested at 26 Federal Plaza, in Lower Manhattan. He had attended an immigration court proceeding and was accused of disrupting the situation — as ICE agents went to arrest an illegal migrant who may face deportation.
Greg Kelly discussed it this week on The Greg Kelly Show.
In essence, there’s broad agreement that Lander got himself ‘cuffed to get attention — then relied on Governor Kathy Hochul to get the charges dropped. On the Dominic Carter Show, host Dominic Carter described the whole thing as a “success” for Lander — from a political perspective.
Meanwhile, on Cats and Cosby, New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin focused on Mamdani — saying the progressive scares some New Yorkers — especially Jewish residents.

The push for City Hall continues. This primary will set the candidates in place ahead of the general election in November. Mayor Eric Adams plans to run as an independent — he previously faced charges that were eventually dropped, alleging campaign finance violation, involving straw donors. While Cuomo and Mamdani are considered the frontrunners on the Democratic side, Lander’s grabbing of the headlines is noteworthy this close to the election. Sliwa — who is no stranger to being arrested — having been handcuffed dozens of times for civil disobedience, chimed in on Lander’s stunt. He described it as Lander’s “dream come true,” given his lagging poll numbers. Sliwa suggested becoming front page news was a true prize for Lander, as opposed to being something negative or causing consternation. Of course, Lander has characterized it differently.
Voters head to the polls for the primary Tuesday, June 24, all while early voting continues. According to the New York City Board of Elections, plenty of people have been taking advantage of the option. As of mid-week, 170,000 early voting ballots had been cast — more than double the amount that did the same during the 2021 primary. Brooklyn reportedly has the highest early vote count. Staten Island has the lowest. Polls are closed on Monday — Sunday is the final chance to use early voting before the actual Primary Day on Tuesday.
