(New York, NY) — Yes, those are sheep on Governor’s Island! The flock is spending its last summer “down state”.
The sheep have visited Governors Island every year since 2021, ridding the area of invasive plant species. They’ve eaten roughly 15 acres worth of invasive greenery, saving local gardeners thousands of hours of manpower while also maintaining the island’s ecosystem.
The sheep come from Albany’s Friend of Tivoli Lake Preserve and Farm, and they’ll head home once their grazing season ends on September 30th.
