(South River, NJ) — Students who pulled off a senior prank at South River High in Middlesex County, New Jersey, will have to pay a fine and do five hours of community service if they want to walk in their graduation. On Monday night, the students involved in the relatively harmless prank, apologized at a school board meeting. They told board members that the punishment, which also excludes them from a final “clap out” and senior barbecue is over the top.
Police say last week dozens of students entered the school after hours and purposely defaced school property which amounts to criminal trespassing and vandalism. That included moving furniture to block hallways and doors and a throwing a lot of toilet paper everywhere. School officials decided to make students involved sign a contract in order to graduate, that involves the fine and community service.
It’s unclear if the Board Of Education will change it’s mind about the punishment after hearing from students Monday night.
