(New York, NY) — Governors Island intends to be very sheepish this summer. Officials on the island have hired five sheep to help destroy invasive weeds over 172-acres. The sheep’s names are Bowie, Chad, Evening Jupiter and Philip Aires.
It’s the fifth summer they’ve been eating weeds on the island. Experts say sheep are used, instead of goats, because goats would eat every type of vegetation in sight, while sheep are very specific in devouring the bad weeds. After September, the sheep head back to their home which is a farm near Albany.
