(New York, NY) — Subway surfing is the act of riding the subway while standing on top of the train car as it hurtles down the track. The MTA and the New York City Public School System are teaming up in a new campaign to combat subway surfing. The “Ride Inside, Stay Alive” Campaign features real city high schoolers making pre-recorded announcements.
There are eight total recordings from different high schoolers that will begin being heard on Subway trains throughout the city this week. The program also features comic books that tell the story of those impacted by subway surfing. Six people in New York City died subway surfing in 2024.
