(Dallas, TX) — There are reports Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd wants to leave Dallas to coach the Knicks next season. ESPN and the New York Post are reporting that Kidd, who led the Mavericks to the finals a year ago, and is still under contract is intrigued by the Knicks opening. It’s unclear if New York has asked for permission from Dallas to speak to Kidd.
The Knicks fired their coach Tom Thibodeau last week after five seasons. The team announced the move after he led New York to its first Eastern Conference Finals appearance this year since the 1999-2000 season. In his five seasons, the Knicks won 226 regular season games and the team went 24-and-23 in four postseason appearances.
New York can cross one potential head coaching candidate off their list. St. John’s coach Rick Pitino said during a recent appearance on the Yankees broadcast the he will not be taking over the Knicks’ vacancy.
