Juror Drama Dragging Out Weinstein Re-trial

(New York, NY) – The jury will continue deliberations on Monday in the Harvey Weinstein sex crimes re-trial. One juror asked to leave the bench after he says the jurors are not following court rules. The person, known only as juror number 7, told the judge that he heard other members gossiping about a fellow member of the jury. Judge Curtis Farber denied a request from the defense for a mistrial, claiming the juror was simply voicing their discomfort in the process as the youngest member of the jury pool.

Deliberations began Thursday and continued through Friday, now picking back up Monday. The panel of 7 women and 5 men are debating a criminal rape case for which Weinstein was found guilty for in 2020. The conviction was overturned last year over testimony from women not directly tied to the case. The disgraced Hollywood producer, who triggered the MeToo movement, is also serving a 16 year sentence in a separate California case. His legal team maintains that all relationships between Weinstein and his accusers were consensual.
