(New York, NY) – Have you seen any QR codes on city parking meters? Well the Department of Transportation is now out with an alert saying those stickers are the work of scammers. The code directs users to a third party website where they can enter their payment and personal information.
So not only are victims risking a ticket for unpaid parking, but their sensitive data could be stolen as well. DOT says the only way to pay online is through the official park NYC app. If you see any of these QR codes on a meter – the DOT is asking good Samaritans to tear it off and contact the transportation department. You can report by calling ParkNYC at 1-800-428-4027 or via email at parknyc@flowbirdapp.com.
