(New York, NY) – Nintendo’s new gaming console, the Switch 2, went on sale Thursday and has caused a lot of excitement. Some stores opened early and in many places the switch is sold out.

The original Nintendo Switch launched in 2017 and sold over 152 million units, making it one of the best-selling game consoles ever. Nintendo hopes the new model will be as successful and according to some experts – it will be. The video game company hopes to keep their stock prices growing–It has gone up almost five times since the original Switch was released.

Gamers all over the world have been eager to get their hands on the console. Demand for it in Japan and China is very high yet the U.K. is not sold out yet. As for here in the U.S., retailers like Best Buy and Walmart held midnight launches and sold out the $499.99 gaming device quickly. NYC local gamers have been gearing up for this launch as well. One man camped outside the Nintendo store on W 48th Street for 2 months to be the first in line. And he wasn’t alone – fellow gamers waited around the Nintendo store for days.

While shortages may continue for a while, supply should improve in the coming weeks. Many stores are taking reservations for customers to buy the device each morning. Nintendo hopes to sell 15 million units by March 2026. Some experts think they’ll do even better–possibly reaching 20 million units in just the first year.
