(Sacramento, CA) — President Trump is now threatening to fine the state of California for allowing a transgender athlete to compete in a girls’ track meet over the weekend. The President was calling out Governor Gavin Newsom on “Truth Social” saying he is ready to impose “large scale fines” on the golden state. It comes after 16-year-old AB Hernandez won three medals in the girls’ division at last weekend’s state track and field championships. The president says the state allowed a “biological male” to compete in the girls’ state finals despite his previous warning “not to do so.”
AB Hernandez, who is from Southern California won two gold medals and a silver medal from the state track and field championships in Clovis. The junior won the girls triple jump and high jump on Saturday. The 16-year-old, who was born male, came out as transgender in eighth grade. His inclusion in the girls’ competitions brought protesters to the track meet.
Someone hired a plane over the weekend to fly a banner that read “no boys in girls sports” during the event. California allows transgender athletes to compete in girls sports. Governor Newsom says he is against the law.
