(New York, NY) — A judge is extending a temporary restraining order blocking ICE from operating at New York’s City’s Rikers Island.
At a hearing in Manhattan Tuesday (June 3, 2025) morning, State Supreme Court Judge Mary Rosado also hinted she may rule within the next week whether to halt Mayor Adams’ plan to allow an ICE office at the jail complex indefinitely.
City Council members say ICE agents on Rikers would violate the city’s sanctuary laws, adding Adams agreed to the move in order to get federal charges dropped against him. The mayor argues ICE would help keep violent criminals and gang members off the streets.
