Wait, how much is my electric bill?

syndication-the-tennessean-56

(Jersey City, NJ) — New Jersey homeowners will be digging deeper beginning this month to pay the electric bill. Rates go up around 20 percent. Utility companies say they had no choice but to raise rates, citing a supply and demand issue. Energy production can’t keep up with the demand for power. The average bill will go up around twenty-dollars.

The news of the rate hikes comes as  the National Weather Service is predicting a hotter than normal summer.

The rate hikes are as follows:

  • Atlantic City Electric: 17.23%

  • Jersey Central Power & Light: 20.2%

  • PSE&G: 17.24%

  • Rockland Electric: 18.18%

New Jersey will continue to help low-income residents with their electric and heating bills with the Home Energy Assistance Program. Residents can call Call 1-800-510-3102 or visit nj.gov/dca/dhcr/offices/hea.shtml to see if they qualify for the program.
