(New York, NY) — New York City is bragging about the lowest number of shootings and homicides in recorded history.

Between January and May of this year, NYPD statistics show New York City recorded 264 shootings, the previous low was in 2018, when the city recorded 267 shootings over the same period.

Meantime, the city saw 112 homicides in the first five months of this year, down from the previous lows in 2017 and 2014.

Mayor Adams says the latest statistics build on his administration’s work to remove more than 22-thousand illegal guns from the streets since he entered office. The NYPD says its summer violence reduction plan will keep up this momentum, along with its newly launched NYPD Quality of Life Division.
