Colorado attack has Jews on edge again

syndication-usa-today-426

(Boulder, CO) — A man used a flamethrower to set people on fire Sunday afternoon at a pro-Israel rally in Boulder, Colorado. 8 were injured, one is in critical condition. At least two of the injured were airlifted to UC Health University of Colorado hospital for treatment of severe burns.

Police in Boulder were quick to take down an Egyptian national, Mohamed Sabry Soliman who reportedly yelled “Free Palestine!” during his attack.  The “New York Post” reports Soliman had applied for asylum in the US and was denied a visa to enter the country back in 2005, and was here now on a tourist visa that had expired around a year ago.

The American Jewish Committee is condemning Sunday’s attack. The committee released a statement calling it “another vile attack against Jews in America.”  Just last month, two Israeli embassy staff members were shot dead outside of the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC by a gunman shouting, “free Palestine”.

The NYPD says it’s on high alert following the terror attack in Colorado on Sunday. The NYPD recently increased its presence at religious sites throughout the city for Shavuot with patrols and heavy weapons teams.
