(Washington, D.C.) — President Trump has handed out a lot of pardons this week.
The President granted pardons to Connecticut Governor John Rowland and former New York Congressman Michael Grimm. Grimm, who represented Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, resigned in 2015 after admitting to underreporting taxable income from his restaurant. Rowland served as Connecticut’s governor from 1995 to 2004. He had been convicted in two federal cases including one where he admitted to accepting illegal gifts. In a statement, Rowland says he is very humbled and appreciative of the pardon. President Trump did not stop there
Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley are out of prison after Trump gave them both pardons this week. The stars of “Chrisley Knows Best” were serving lengthy prison sentences for conspiring to defraud banks and the IRS, and were in the process of appealing their convictions.
The President also gave a pardon to rapper NBA YoungBoy who was sentenced to two years in prison on gun charges. A White House official also announced that POTUS signed off on a commutation of Larry Hoover’s sentence of six life terms. Hoover was a Chicago street gang leader and co-founded the Gangster Disciples. He still faces the remainder of his 200-year sentence in Illinois for a 1973 murder.
President Trump is also planning to look into the convictions of those involved in the failed 2020 plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr., were convicted for the kidnapping plot, which involved plans to take the governor from her vacation home at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, because they were angry with government-imposed coronavirus restrictions. Fox was convicted in 2022 and sentenced to 16 years in prison while Croft, who was believed to be the brains behind the plot, was sentenced to 19 years.
