(East Shoreham, NY) — An East Shoreham, Long Island man took the cover off his pool for the season this weekend, only to find a body floating in the water. He called 911 Sunday afternoon after making the grisly discovery. It’s not clear how long the body had been in the pool, which had been closed since last summer.
There’s talk the body might be that of Matthew Zoll, the 23-year-old fugitive who police say stabbed his father to death in their Rocky Point home last November. Police had searched the East Shoreham neighborhood last year looking for him, but to no avail. Cops have been mum on the identity of the body.
Police thought Zoll was hiding out in the woods after the murder. The hunt, that began back on November 9th had neighbors uneasy. They were worried Zoll could return to the house. Police say the father was stabbed to death inside his home around 1:35 a.m. on November 9th.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, and the identity of the deceased person, described as a male.
