Sacré Bleu! A French Hand To the Face!

(Vietnam) – A bizarre scene unfolded on Monday in Vietnam, as French President Emmanuel Macron was on an official state visit with his wife Brigitte Macron. As the pair were readying to descend their stairs of their private jet, TV cameras caught a hand shoving the French president in the face. He immediately appeared stunned to notice that cameras would have been in his direct line of sight, and he sidestepped out of view.

The Associated Press captured the footage in question. TMZ referred to it as Marcon getting “smacked right in the noggin.” At first, the French government attempted to deny anything had happened. Later, when it was clear the footage existed, they changed their tune. News outlet Le Monde said the initial attempt was to blame the story on “Russian disinformation.” Macron then described it as a little joke between the couple.

Macron said: “my wife and I were squabbling, we were rather joking, and I was taken by surprise. We are bickering and joking, and a video becomes a sort of geoplanetary catastrophe. In the world we live in, we don’t have a lot of time to lose … This is all a bit of nonsense.”

TMZ quoted a French official who said, “it was a moment when the president and his wife were relaxing one last time before the start of the trip by having a laugh. It was a moment of closeness.”

Of course, if that’s a moment of closeness, members of your favorite local pro-wrestling federation must be downright chummy. Political opponents hurling verbal haymakers ahead of the June primary are downright intimate. Mets and Yankees fans truly find themselves inseparable on an emotional level during the Subway Series. Cops and robbers are finding new bonds between them. Should we continue?
