A violent weekend in Seaside Heights

syndication-asbury-park-press-85

(Seaside Heights, NJ) — It was a long violent holiday weekend at Seaside Heights, down at the the Jersey shore. Stabbings and fights, both on and off the boardwalk led to 73 arrests. That included 52 adults and 21 juveniles. The violence came despite a 10PM curfew put in place for anyone under 18. Things became so unruly that the boardwalk was shut down for everyone at midnight on Sunday.

Seaside Heights police say three young adults were stabbed. Though as of Monday night the victims had refused to identify their attackers. All three stabbings occurred within a block of the boardwalk.

An estimated one-hundred-thousand people were in the popular shore town for the extended holiday weekend.

State Assemblyman Paul Kanitra says most of those cuffed will get off easy, because the laws are too laxed for disorderly conduct in the garden state. He is calling on his fellow state lawmakers and Governor Murphy, to pass a bill that would stiffen penalties for those charged with disorderly conduct.
