(Hampton Bays, NY) — Southampton police are investigating after a boating accident in the Hamptons Sunday night. The boat’s captain is under arrest after the boat crashed ashore shortly before 9 p.m. Several people were taken to the hospital.
According to police, the boat crashed into the Shinnecock Canal jetty and ended up on the beach at Meschutt Beach County Park. Twenty-eight-year-old Edward Hillkewicz of Mastic Beach is facing charges of boating while intoxicated, reckless operation of a vessel, among other charges.
