(Washington, D.C.) — President Trump’s “big beautiful bill” passed the House early this morning. The vote on the massive spending plan was close, 215 to 214 with all Democrats and two Republicans voting against it. One of those Republicans was Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky. The other was Ohio’s Warren Davidson.

The bill, if it becomes law, would make big cuts to Medicaid. Democrats say an estimated seven-point-six million Americans will lose their health insurance over the next ten years. It would also add new requirements to food assistance, eliminate taxes on tips, and put billions toward fighting illegal immigration. Tax dollars would also be used to bolster the nation’s missile defense system.

Members of Congress debated the bill through the night and into early this morning. Republicans worried they may not have enough votes to get the bill across the finish line, but they did.

The bill now goes to the Senate, where lawmakers have already promised to make changes.
