NY:
(New York, NY) — A pro Palestinian protest is planned just outside of Columbia University today as the school holds its campuswide commencement ceremony. During a separate ceremony on campus yesterday, the interim President Claire Shipman was booed and then chants of “Free Mahmoud” could be heard loudly. They refer to the Columbia grad and the Pro Palestinian activist who was arrested by ICE earlier in the year.
Dozens of Columbia University students were suspended from school a few weeks back for taking part in a pro-Palestinian protest. School officials tell the New York Post over 65 students were given interim suspensions and nearly three dozen others, including some alumni, have been banned from setting foot on campus.
The suspensions come following a May protest at Butler Library which saw dozens of demonstrators arrested for pushing past security and vandalizing the building. It’s unclear how long the suspensions will be for.
