(New York, NY) — At least three patients from Long Island are among more than a dozen people who are part of a lawsuit claiming they lost their vision from taking the weight loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. The news comes after several recent studies showed a link between people taking drugs like this and vision complications. It may have something to do with one of the drug’s ingredients called semaglutide.
One of the patients is 57-year-old Edward Fanelli of New Jersey, who was prescribed Ozempic for his Type 2 diabetes three years ago. Fanelli told News 12 New Jersey that about eight months later he developed severely blurred vision in his right eye and had to quit his job as a general contractor. Meantime, numbers from the CDC show that waistlines are growing, with at least one-in-five American adults living with obesity.
