NJ Transit engineers are heading back to work

syndication-asbury-park-press-81

(Trenton, NJ) — – New Jersey Transit trains will start rolling again Tuesday after striking engineers agreed to a new deal with the commuter rail. The engineers have been demanding a bigger payday.  Governor Murphy says they gave the workers the raise they deserved without bankrupting NJ Transit.

There are still no trains running today. It takes NJ Transit around 24 hours to inspect trains and tracks, and put them in position to run again after shutting down the system for the strike. There’s extra NJ Transit bus service in place for today including four park and ride locations.  NJ Transit is asking anyone who can from home to do so. The extra busses rolled out can only accommodate around 20 percent of the train commuters.

New Jersey Transit is the nation’s third-largest transit system, servicing a total of 350-thousand riders.
