Can President Trump negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine?

(Kyiv) — Russia launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine Sunday, the largest one since the start of the war in 2022. Ukraine says several homes were destroyed and at least one woman was killed. The attack comes ahead of a phone call planned for today between President Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss a possible ceasefire.

Ukrainian and Russian officials met Friday in Turkey  for the first time in years, but no ceasefire was agreed upon. Ukraine says it is prepared to accept a ceasefire without conditions, but Russia is demanding a halt to arms supplies into Ukraine.

The White House predicts the U.S. will have a “successful” phone call with President Putin today about a ceasefire in Ukraine. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff told ABC on Sunday that  “They know each other,” and that “The president is determined to get something done here, and if he can’t do it, then nobody can.”
