NJ Transit Strike!

syndication-asbury-park-press-80

(New York, NY) – NJ Transit Engineers walked off the job at 12:01 Friday (May 15, 2025)  morning, bringing train service to a halt and leaving 350-thousand daily commuters scrambling for other options. Governor Murphy is urging both sides to strike a deal.

Salaries are the sticking point. Engineers want the same pay scale as the MTA, PATH and LIRR workers. Engineers are picketing in places like Newark and New York Penn Station, frustrated after twelve hours of talks Thursday (May 14, 2025) that failed to result in a deal.

They say NJ Transit should make the next concession but feel for commuters. The union says NJ Transit offered pay close to what Long Island Rail Road engineers make but that wasn’t good enough, adding that those engineers also deserve raises and have been working without a contract. The next round of talks is set for Sunday.

NJ TRANSIT will enhance peak period service on existing New York bus routes in close proximity to rail stations.  Park & Ride service will operate on a first come, first served basis beginning on Monday, May 19, from four key regional Park & Ride lots, weekdays only, during AM peak period inbound and PM peak period outbound.  Times of operation are listed in the chart below.  NJ TRANSIT will deploy customer service ambassadors at the Park & Rides to assist customers.

  • Secaucus Junction to Port Authority Bus Terminal, New York
  • PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel to Port Authority Bus Terminal, New York  (Operated by Academy Bus)
    • Customers should visit academybus.com for ticket purchase information
    • Note: NJ TRANSIT tickets, including Monthly Passes, will not be accepted on Academy buses.
  • Hamilton Rail Station to Newark Penn Station PATH
  • Woodbridge Center Mall to Harrison PATH Station
