(Washington, DC) — Former FBI Director James Comey is facing backlash for a social media post some say calls for the assassination of President Trump. The post included a photo of seashells on a beach arranged to form the numbers “86-47.” The number “86” is occasionally used as a slang term for getting rid of someone or something, while “47” was interpreted as a reference to Donald Trump’s status as the 47th president.
President Trump went after the former FBI Director. He told Fox News, “He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant … That meant ‘assassination.”
The post has faced criticism from Trump administration officials. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says Comey was calling for the assassination of President Trump She says DHS and the Secret Service are investigating the threat. Comey has since taken the post down.
