(New York, NY) — NYPD cops are looking for a 14-year-old who shot and killed a 16-year-old girl outside a Bronx high school Monday evening. The victim was not the intended target of the gunfire. Eyewitnesses say the girl’s mother raced to the scene, outside Bronx Latin High where she collapsed to the sidewalk when she realized it was her daughter who had been killed.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch says a fight broke out around 5 p.m. near the high school. She says a teen involved was handed a gun that he fired of three times. One of those bullets hit the 16-year-old victim.
Mayor Adams tried to console the victim’s family. He also spoke with worried parents outside the school.
Police say they want to speak with the 14-year-old gunman and hear what took place. They say they will also likely make more arrests as they try to piece together what took place, and how the teen got his hands on a gun.
