(New York, NY) – Animal advocates calling for action regarding pigeon poachers. A rally in Manhattan was held on Wednesday, pushing for action from District Attorney Alvin Bragg to crack down on illegal pigeon catchers. This move follows the arrest of a serial poacher in the East Village at the end of last month. Dwayne Daley, 67, allegedly had plans to sell the 25 pigeons to hunters in Pennsylvania for target practice. John Di Leonardo with Humane Long Island says there needs to be better enforcement. Republican mayoral candidate and founder of the Guardian Angels, Curtis Sliwa, joined advocates pointing out the pigeon is part of the city’s natural ecosystem, adding the bird is a “symbol of New York City”. It is illegal to remove any animal from a city park. The Manhattan DA’s office also said that the suspect was charged and prosecuted.
