Call for Increased Pet Protections

syndication-sheboygan-press-8

(New York, NY) — There’s a call for increased pet protections in New York City following a dog-on-dog attack on the Upper West Side.

The owners of Penny, a chihuahua, were walking her near West 85th Street and Columbus Avenue Sunday when they say one of two pit bulls lunged at the smaller pup. Good Samaritans jumped in and helped the owners free Penny from the pit bull’s jaws with the help of a cane.

The NYPD, ASPCA and Animal Care Centers of NYC say city law only permits them to get involved when a dog attacks a human. Councilmember Gale Brewer says she plans to push legislation that would allow them to intervene when a dog attacks another dog.
