(Washington DC) – The White House is clarifying a recent announcement regarding the name change for Veteran’s Day. The national holiday observed on November 11th honors former members of the armed services. President Donald Trump made a social media post calling for the day to be recognized as “Victory Day for World War I”. However, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that this was not a name change but rather an additional proclamation for the day. Establishing a national holiday does require an act of congress to become law. President Trump also announced plans to mark May 8th as “Victory Day for World War II”.
