(New York, NY) — There’s a surge in interest in becoming a New York City police officer after the NYPD loosened its eligibility requirements.
Speaking at an officer swearing in ceremony today, Mayor Eric Adams says the number of daily applications have increased nearly 45 percent since the expanded eligibility requirements were announced in February. He says the NYPD is on track to reach 35-thousand members by the fall of 2026.
Interest in the NYPD had declined in recent years but in February, the NYPD lowered the required college credit minimum to enter the Police Academy.
