(Bronx, NY) — The Bronx Zoo is raising a rare King Vulture chick. It’s the first one in five decades and zookeepers are stepping up to make sure it survives. They’re using a falcon hand puppet to feed the baby, so the chick doesn’t get attached to humans.
The hand feeding technique has been around at the zoo for 40-years, with the puppets hand-made by zoo artists. This baby King Vulture hatched at the end of February and its sex is still undetermined. Currently, the chick is eating rodent products. The chicks’ father is 55-years old.
