(New York, NY) — New York City officials are destroying illegal guns that have been seized and turning them into a gun violence memorial.
Mayor Eric Adams and the police commissioner gathered with community and faith leaders to put more than 33-hundred guns through a recycling chipper. The material will then be donated to a New York City school where students learning welding will repurpose the metal and create a memorial to honor gun violence victims.
The mayor says more than 21-thousand illegal guns have been taken off the streets since he was elected and that has lead to a huge decline in gun violence in the city.
