(New York, NY) — Walmart has gone viral for it’s new anti-theft measures for meat. A shopper shared a video online that showed meats locked in their refrigerated counter by tiny wire cages. The more expensive cuts of meats are locked in a sleeve of metal wiring which look like metal fishnet. Many retailers started locking items away, or used metal tags, after the rise of shoplifting during the pandemic.
Many shoppers and CEO’s complained about the new shopping protocols. However, now caging items to prevent theft is happening inside other stores, including Target, Walgreens and CVS. The CEO of Walgreens was quoted as saying during a call to investors that you don’t sell as many items when you lock things up.
