(Trenton, NJ) — Millions of dollars in medical debt is being erased for hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents.
Governor Phil Murphy is partnering with Undue Medical Debt and RWJ Barnabis Health to eliminate nearly 930-million-dollars in debt for roughly 629-thousand New Jerseyans. Murphy says there is no application process for medical debt relief, adding those who qualify are folks at or below 400-percent of the poverty line or have medical debts that equal five-percent of their income.
Eligible households should keep an eye on their mailbox in the coming weeks for a branded letter from Undue Medical Debt. It’s the fourth time New Jersey has moved to forgive medical debt, with Murphy saying the debt relief program tops one billion dollars so far.
